Ocean Science Adds Reef Life in Ongoing PBL!Collegiate's Secondary Ocean Science class added new fish, invertebrates, and coral to their problem-based learning (PBL) reef tank this week.

In an ongoing partnership with local aquarium shop Aquatic Art, Collegiate's Ocean Science students continued their problem-based learning this week with a visit to the shop to select new flora and fauna which can thrive in our developing reef tank near the Elementary Lobby of our school.

Over the first quarter of the academic year, students have been working with water chemistry on clarity and nutrients. Two weeks ago, students determined that they were ready to add some hardy species as a "cleanup crew" and introduced some snails and hermit crabs into their reef.

This week, students visited with owner Cris Capp and his team of experts at Aquatic Art to choose a few more reef-safe critters as well as some coral species, which they hope to propagate as the reef matures! Stay tuned for the latest tank additions as our PBL continues- or better yet, stop in and check out our reef in person!
